The fruit are firm, and when harvested fully-black have a very good, full and rich flavour. Fruit retain their black colour well after refrigeration or freezing.
Use of the Variety
Obsidian has excellent potential as early season variety for the fresh market.
Blackberry is a prickly bush with perennial rhizomes and biennial overhead shoots, belonging to the family of rosaceous. The flowers are white, large, collected in the corymbose inflorescences. Blackberry fruits are large, with a lot of seeds, very similar to raspberries, especially red undersized berries. Ripe blackberry berries are bright black, sometimes with a purple hue. They taste sweet and sour. Blackberry is a good honey plant.
Blackberry berries are a natural “multivitamin complex.” In the blackberry is a lot of vitamin C, there are vitamins E, P, PP, K, provitamin A, vitamins of group B. In addition, berries contain mineral substances (potassium, sodium, magnesium, calcium, iron, phosphorus, nickel, copper etc., fiber, sugar (fructose and glucose), organic acids (citric, malic, salicylic and wine), tocopherols, pectins.
